US to provide $10.4m defence grant to Georgia

Under the decree, the assistance will be provided in line with Georgia’s regulations on the coordination of foreign aid and the acceptance of grants by state institutions

The United States government will provide Georgia’s Ministry of Defence with a grant worth more than $10.4 million, the Georgian government said on Wednesday.
The decision, approved by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, authorises the transfer of goods under several US grant programmes, with a total value of $10,431,459.90.
Under the decree, the assistance will be provided in line with Georgia’s regulations on the coordination of foreign aid and the acceptance of grants by state institutions. The funding covers the delivery of communications equipment and other materials to the Ministry of Defence.
The document also grants the Defence Ministry formal authority to receive and manage the equipment supplied by the US government, in accordance with Georgia’s Law on Grants.
