Latvia’s Foreign Minister, Baiba Braže, announced that discussions are underway with international partners regarding the imposition of sanctions on Georgian government officials. The statement was made on X, reflecting growing international concern over recent developments in Georgia.

“During the summer, the European Union suspended financial support for the Georgian government. Now, together with our partners, we are considering the introduction of sanctions against Georgian officials,” Braže stated.

This announcement comes amidst heightened tensions in Georgia, where widespread protests have erupted in response to the government’s decision to suspend EU accession negotiations until 2028. The European Union and several member states have expressed serious concerns over what they describe as democratic backsliding and deviations from Georgia’s European aspirations.
