Following a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, US President Joe Biden expressed confidence in Ukraine’s ability to win the war, provided Western unity remains steadfast.

“I had a long talk with Zelenskyy today,” Biden said. “I think that as long as we continue to keep Western Europe united as it relates to Ukraine, there is a real chance that the Ukrainians can prevail.”

Biden highlighted the heavy toll on Russia, stating that the cost of participation in the war for Moscow has been “incredibly high,” with over 600,000 soldiers dead or wounded. He also noted the high mortality rate among Korean forces reportedly brought in by Russia.

The US President reaffirmed his commitment to providing Ukraine with the necessary resources to defend itself. “I made it clear to provide all the necessary funds to Ukraine that I have the authority to do as president,” he said, emphasizing bipartisan support in Congress for continued aid to Ukraine.

The conversation on January 10 focused on key areas of cooperation, including the new US sanctions package targeting Russia’s energy sector, which funds the Kremlin’s war efforts.

The leaders also discussed the battlefield situation in Ukraine, the need to enhance Ukraine’s air defenses, and protecting civilians in cities and villages from Russia’s daily missile and drone attacks.
