Former US President Joe Biden on Sunday accused Donald Trump of delivering a “devastating blow” not only to the “house of the people”, but also to the Constitution, the rule of law and American democracy.

Referring to the demolition of the East Wing of the White House, Biden quipped that he had not realised it would be a “real wrecking ball”, calling it a fitting symbol of Trump’s presidency.

“This is a perfect metaphor for his time in office - destruction and chaos”, Biden said, mocking Trump’s recent claims that his second term would usher in a “golden age” for the United States.

“Now he says we are living in a ‘golden age’. The only gold he knows is what he hangs on his fireplace mantle”, Biden added.
