International affairs expert Batu Kutelia says Ukraine has undergone significant political and military developments since President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s first meeting at the White House, arguing that both Ukraine and its leader have demonstrated leadership within the democratic world.
“Since Zelenskyy’s first meeting at the White House, very important developments have taken place in Ukraine and through the efforts of the Ukrainian people. Ukraine and Zelenskyy have proven themselves to be true political leaders of the free world,” Kutelia said.
He also pointed to Ukraine’s internal political processes, saying they demonstrate the country’s functioning democracy and its ability to address domestic challenges, including corruption. According to Kutelia, continued public support for Ukraine in the United States has also helped sustain bipartisan backing in Washington.
Kutelia added that while Ukraine is increasingly capable of addressing many challenges on its own, it remains vulnerable to Russian ballistic missile attacks, making advanced air defence systems essential.
He said US-made air defence systems remain the most effective option and warned that without adequate protection of Ukraine's airspace, continued Russian attacks on energy infrastructure during the winter could result in severe humanitarian and economic consequences.
