A minor has been arrested in connection with an attempted murder in Batumi, while criminal charges have been filed in absentia against a second suspect, Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) said.
According to the investigation, on July 22, the detained minor transported another individual by motorcycle to the vicinity of Pirosmani Street in Batumi, where the suspect allegedly opened fire on a young man, inflicting multiple gunshot wounds before both fled the scene.
The victim was taken to a medical facility and received emergency treatment.
Following оперативe and investigative measures, law enforcement officers arrested one of the suspects in Rustavi. Criminal proceedings have been initiated in absentia against the second suspect, who has been declared wanted.
Investigators recovered nine spent shell casings from the crime scene. Police also seized the motorcycle, a helmet, two pairs of gloves, clothing, and various accessories that investigators believe were used during the commission of the crime.
The investigation is being conducted under Articles 19-109 (attempted aggravated murder) and 236 (illegal purchase, possession, and carrying of a firearm) of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The offenses are punishable by up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
