Foreign national detained in Batumi over large-scale methadone trafficking

A foreign national has been detained in Batumi on suspicion of illegally possessing, with the intent to sell, a particularly large quantity of methadone, Georgia's Interior Ministry said.

The suspect was detained by officers of the Adjara Police Department following investigative measures in Batumi, according to the ministry.

Police searched the suspect and his home, where they allegedly found a particularly large quantity of methadone prepared for sale, as well as materials used to package drugs.

The charges carry a prison sentence of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
