A foreign national has been killed in a shooting incident in the Black Sea city of Batumi, Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed on Friday. 

The shooting occurred at a facility located on Ninoshvili Street, with emergency services responding shortly after a report was received by the ministry’s Public Security Management Center 112.

“Upon receiving the report, representatives of the relevant units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs immediately arrived at the scene,” the ministry said in a statement. “It was determined that a foreign citizen was killed as a result of a gunshot.”

Authorities have not yet released the identity or nationality of the victim.

An investigation is underway under Article 108 (premeditated murder) and Article 236 (illegal acquisition, storage, and carrying of firearms) of Georgia’s Criminal Code. Police say all necessary investigative actions are being taken.
