31 Ukrainian citizens freed from Belarusian prisons return to Ukraine

Thirty-one Ukrainian civilians who had been imprisoned in Belarus were returned to Ukraine on Saturday, according to the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
"Today, a meeting was held between Ukraine and Belarus regarding the return of peaceful civilians. As a result of successful negotiations, 31 citizens detained in Belarus have been returned to Ukraine,” the Headquarters said in a statement.
Those released had been serving sentences ranging from two to 11 years. The youngest is 18 and the oldest 58. Among them are individuals with severe illnesses, including cancer patients.
“We express our gratitude to the United States and President Donald Trump for their effective efforts in securing the return of Ukrainian civilians and military personnel from Belarus and Russia,” the statement added.
Authorities reported that all released Ukrainians would receive necessary medical care and rehabilitation.
Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko granted clemency to the 31 Ukrainian citizens.
