The United Kingdom has reiterated its unwavering support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, according to a statement issued by the UK Embassy in Georgia on the 16th anniversary of the Russia-Georgia August War.

“Today we commemorate the 16th anniversary of the Russia-Georgia war of August 2008. We remember those killed, injured and displaced by Russia’s brutal and illegal actions. The UK remains steadfast in its support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity”, the Embassy said.

The August War, also known as the Russo-Georgian War, erupted in August 2008, leading to a brief but intense conflict between Russia and Georgia. The war resulted in hundreds of casualties, the displacement of thousands, and the subsequent occupation of Georgia’s regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) by Russian forces.
