Two Arrested on Drug Possession Charges as Part of Investigation into Daur Buava’s Death

Two people have been arrested on drug possession charges as part of the ongoing investigation into the death of Daur Buava, Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

Officers from the Vake-Saburtalo Main Division of the Tbilisi Police Department searched two residences in Tbilisi after investigators identified additional circumstances related to the case.

According to the ministry, police seized 10 packages containing various narcotic substances, including marijuana and methadone.

“The ongoing investigation, including witness interviews, has established that both detainees knew Daur Buava and his female friend, who was arrested by police yesterday,” the ministry said.

Investigators have also established that one of the individuals arrested on drug-related charges provided the woman with narcotics free of charge. According to the investigation, she later consumed the drugs together with Buava and subsequently left him in a life-threatening condition without seeking assistance.

As part of the investigation into Buava’s death, law enforcement officers arrested a foreign national on August 29 on charges of abandoning a person in danger.

The investigation and other relevant investigative procedures are ongoing, the Interior Ministry said.
