David Sikharulidze, Georgia’s former ambassador to the US and member of the Atlantic Council’s board, expressed concern regarding the current political situation in Georgia, stating that not even during the country’s most difficult periods of independence has he witnessed anything similar. He suggested that only Russia could benefit from such developments.

“I can’t recall anything like this, even during the most challenging times in Georgia’s recent history. These actions—starting with the talks about the so-called ‘Global War Party,’ the persecution of NGOs, and the undermining of civil society—go against Georgia’s national interests and the clearly expressed will of the Georgian people. The only party that could benefit from this is Russia,” Sikharulidze said.

His remarks come after the US administration revoked the invitation for Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to attend a reception hosted by President Joe Biden. Sikharulidze noted that Georgia’s international partners have taken notice and responded to the situation.
