President: Georgian people cannot understand another refusal, disappointment for EU candidacy

The Georgian people cannot understand another refusal and disappointment for the European Union membership candidate status, Georgian president Salome Zourabichvili said in her social media post, following her meeting with German foreign minister Annalena Baerbock in Tbilisi.

Zourabichvili tweeted she had thanked the German official for her country’s support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity and its European aspirations.

“Georgia counts on Germany,” she added.

Unlike Ukraine and Moldova, the bloc last year refused to grant the candidate status to Georgia, but outlined 12 conditions and said if the country met the recommendations, it would be granted the status later this year.
