Moscow claims it conducting “counter-terrorism” operation in Belgorod

The Russian government on Tuesday claimed it was conducting a “counter-terrorism” operation in Belgorod, following the Russian Volunteer Corps and the Free Russia Legion organized a raid in the region.

The Ukrainian intelligence said the purpose of the raid was to create a "security zone" to protect Ukrainians. According to British intelligence, clashes between Russian security forces and partisans took place in at least three places in Russia's Belgorod region in the last three days.

"Due to the situation in the Graivoron region, the Ministry of Defense, together with law enforcement agencies, continues to clean the area," the governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov said.

He also announced the death of a woman during the evacuation and the two wounded individuals.
