Russia could abduct up to 300,000 Ukrainian children - official

Russia could forcibly take between 200,000-300,000 children out of Ukraine since its full-scale invasion of the country in February 2022, Daria Gerasimchuk, an adviser to the President of Ukraine for children's rights and rehabilitation, told Interfax-Ukraine on Monday.

The official said the figures were not accurate as the country’s territories still remained under Russian control, while as she said confirmed figures hit 19,499.

“With regard to 19,499 children, there is personal data for each, we know who these children are and where they were abducted from. However, we are unaware of their current whereabouts”, Gerasimchuk said.

The international criminal court in The Hague in March indicted Russian president Vladimir Putin and the country’s children’s commissioner, Maria Lvova-Belova, for the mass abduction of Ukrainian children during the ongoing conflict.
