UNM chair announces “key decisions” on 20th anniversary of Rose Revolution

Levan Khabeishvili, the chair of the United National Movement, on Monday announced the party would announce key decisions on Thursday, on the 20th anniversary of the Rose Revolution, which led to the nine-year-rule of the UNM.

He noted the decisions would also concern “concrete individuals”.

“20 years will pass from the Rose Revolution when the citizens of Georgia, together with President [Mikheil] Saakashvili and the UNM defeated, corruption [under President Eduard Shevardnadze’s rule], created a state out of the swamp, the country was moving forward with great strides, including towards the European family”, Khabeishvili said.

In his comments on Monday, Saakashvili, the currently imprisoned third President of Georgia, said he would take over the chairmanship of the UNM’s Political Council, despite having Ukrainian citizenship, as domestic laws ban the engagement of foreign nationals in politics.
