Tbilisi Mayor slams opposition leader over allegations on “wrong” transport reform

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze on Monday slammed Giorgi Vashadze, the head of the Strategy Agmashenebeli opposition party, for his latest allegations that Tbilisi City Hall, under the ongoing transport reform, “disregarded recommendations” by Systra, one of the world's leading engineering and consulting groups specialized in public transport and mobility solutions.

Kaladze, who also serves as the Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, called Vashadze “degraded” and accused him of spreading “blatant lies”, emphasizing that his office “actively considered” proposals from foreign consultants.

He highlighted ongoing reforms in public transport since 2017, emphasizing the priority of making public transport more accessible and efficient.

The official also dismissed Vashadze's accusations regarding the Chavchavadze avenue, stating that such claims were “baseless and populist”.

Vashadze criticized Tbilisi City Hall's actions on Chavchavadze, Ketevan Tsamebuli, and Tsereteli Avenues, arguing that the company Systra disapproved of its approach. Vashadze also expressed concern about the roads' quality.
