US Ambassador to Georgia addresses “misinformation” on alleged Global War Party

US Ambassador to Georgia, Robin Dunnigan, on Friday addressed recent claims by the members of the ruling Georgian Dream party and its affiliates that the United States is allegedly behind the unspecified Global War Party and is attempting to incite revolution in Georgia. She emphasised that these assertions were part of a broader misinformation campaign aimed at distorting the nature of US-Georgia relations.

“For more than 32 years, the US has provided 6 billion US dollars in aid to Georgia, supporting its aspirations and development,” Dunnigan stated. "It is heartbreaking and disappointing to hear a narrative that tries to paint a different picture than the truth. I want to reiterate the commitment of the US to the Georgian people, to their aspiration to become a member of the European Union, and to strengthen the Euro-Atlantic trajectory. This future is enshrined in the Constitution of Georgia, and it's a future we have been working towards together for decades. The United States will continue to support this vision."

Dunnigan further lamented the spread of “misinformation” regarding US intentions in Georgia. “Some claim that we are the Global War Party and that we are trying to encourage revolution in this country, as if we have evil intentions. This is really disappointing to hear. Our history in this country spans more than 32 years and is marked by strong ties between our peoples, deep relations between Americans and Georgians, partnerships in medicine and education, the sharing of agricultural equipment, and mutual efforts to strengthen our defence forces."

The ambassador concluded by highlighting the “long-standing and robust relationship between the two nations”.

Domestic opposition and the country’s civil sector claim the ruling Georgian Dream party is attempting to derail the country from its Euro-Atlantic path through demonising Georgia’s western allies.
