Ukraine’s Zelenskyy signs law on single roaming space with EU

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, on Tuesday signed a law that integrates Ukraine into the European Union's single roaming space, according to Ukrainian media reports.

The bill was submitted to the Ukrainian Parliament in November 2023 and was adopted in its second reading in May 2024. This legislation aims to standardise procedures following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, including the establishment of a common roaming space between Ukraine and the EU and other related concepts.

Since the full-scale invasion by Russia, a significant number of Ukrainians have relocated to European countries. Thanks to agreements between operators, millions of Ukrainians in the EU have been able to communicate with their relatives in Ukraine without incurring extra charges. This arrangement has been in place temporarily since the onset of the active phase of the war.

Last year, the EU approved the European Commission's proposal to extend EU mobile roaming benefits to Ukraine.
