Investigators from the Investigative Service of Georgia’s Ministry of Finance of Georgia have arrested a foreign citizen on charges of distributing a large amount of counterfeit currency.

The agency on Wednesday said the arrest followed operational-search measures and investigative activities carried out in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region of Georgia.

The suspect allegedly circulated 100 counterfeit 100-dollar banknotes, amounting to a total of 10,000 US dollars, as well as counterfeit currency worth 350 euros, with the intention of obtaining unlawful financial gain.

Authorities said all counterfeit banknotes were fully seized during the investigation.

The crime carries a prison sentence of between seven and 10 years if convicted.
