Officers from the Fraud Prevention Division of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia’s Tbilisi Police Department have arrested one person on charges of large-scale fraud.

The Ministry said the investigation established that the suspect allegedly obtained ₾83,000 ($30,974) from a victim in stages under the pretext of securing a construction permit for a land plot and building a residential house.

Investigators said the accused failed to fulfil the agreement and unlawfully appropriated the money.

Law enforcement officers detained the suspect as a defendant on the basis of a court order following operational and investigative measures.

The crime is punishable by up to nine years in prison.
