The United Kingdom has imposed sanctions on Georgian politician and media mogul Levan Vasadze, whom London accuses of peddling pro-Russian disinformation, and businessman and former Prosecutor General of the country Otar Partskhaladze, who the UK said had “extensive links to Russia”.
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said the Kremlin was increasingly seeking proxies in third countries, including Georgia.
“As Russia’s war situation worsens, the Kremlin is more actively looking for proxies in third countries, including Georgia, to support its war and propaganda operations.
Georgian politician and media magnate Levan Vasadze has been targeted for using his platforms to spread pro-Russian disinformation. Businessman Otar Partskhaladze, who has extensive ties to Russia and senior levels of the ruling Georgian Dream party, has also been sanctioned,” the statement reads.
