Dimitri Khundadze, head of the parliamentary political group People’s Power, on Thursday claimed the recent statement by USAID’s former head was further proof that the agency served as a “deep state cashbox,” allegedly financing the overthrow and replacement of governments and driving revolutionary processes in certain countries.

Khundadze argued that it was time for the new US administration not only to acknowledge USAID’s undemocratic goals but also to recognise that Georgia was the first to raise the issue.

He recalled that People’s Power had long spoken about USAID’s activities, facing heavy criticism, attacks, and accusations in return. However, Khundadze noted, the new US administration had itself admitted that USAID funds were used for such purposes abroad.

“This is, of course, unacceptable. But I believe the time has come not only for acknowledgment of such practices but also for confirmation that Georgia was the first to speak out. If donor countries and the Trump administration remain silent, it will still signal indirect support. This requires a strong reaction, acknowledgment, and confirmation from the new administration that such activities took place in Georgia”, Khundadze said.
