The Georgian Education Ministry has responded to a protest in Tbilisi Public School No.119, where parents and several teachers stated that acting director of the school, Tea Bregvadze, has been replaced on political grounds.
The demonstrators said that Bregadze supports the United National Movement opposition party, while the recently appointed Tamar Tabuashvili is a supporter of the ruling Georgian Dream party.
The ministry says that the contract with the school director Paata Razmadze expired in September 2020 and Bregadze automatically replaced him as she had served as a deputy director.
The ministry stated that Bregadze had been informed that she would have to quit the post of acting director as soon as the ministry appointed someone to the role.
