An opposition leader from the Coalition for Change, Elene Khoshtaria, has expressed support for an initiative by former president Salome Zourabichvili to establish a special state fund to finance treatment for children with serious illnesses.
In a letter released from detention, Khoshtaria said she supported the proposal to channel funds recovered from corruption and improper procurement into healthcare, including treatment for children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
She also endorsed the broader call to begin planning decisions that could follow a potential change of government.
Zourabichvili recently proposed amendments to the Georgian Charter, suggesting the state should fund medicines for children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy and create a dedicated fund financed by money recovered from corruption cases.
