Paata Manjgaladze, an MP of the Strategy Agmashenebeli opposition party that has been allied with the United National Movement opposition party ahead of this year’s parliamentary elections, on Tuesday highlighted the importance of setting up opposition platforms in the context of a five percent election threshold.

He stressed “every vote that falls below the threshold becomes an additional vote supporting the continuity of the Georgian Dream in power”.

“The primary objective of our coalition is to align with the people. Frankly, we are not awaiting parties; if there is a willingness, we are open to discussions. However, we seek individuals with whom we share common ground. If Lelo [opposition party] chooses not to cooperate, so be it. Have we ever taken a misguided stance? We all must confront reality. The opposition needs to collaborate internally. Whether they choose cooperation or not is part of their election tactics – clear communication on this matter is essential”, he said.

The ruling party, citing latest polls, claim only it and the UNM are expected to gain seats in the parliament.
