The European Union and Azerbaijan have agreed to resume negotiations on a new partnership and cooperation agreement, according to Azerbaijani media reports. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and European Commission Vice-President Kaja Kallas announced the decision during a press conference in Baku.

“This partnership must be built on mutual respect, including respect towards EU member states, and on fundamental principles such as the rule of law and human rights,” Kallas said.

She emphasized that the EU and Azerbaijan share a long-standing partnership, noting that the EU is Azerbaijan’s largest trading partner and biggest investor.

“The EU also provides significant support for demining efforts in Azerbaijan, helping to mitigate the consequences of conflict and save lives,” Kallas added, highlighting the potential for further cooperation.
