EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, congratulated the people of Georgia on the country’s Independence Day in a message posted on the social platform X (formerly Twitter).

"Congratulations to the people of 🇬🇪 Georgia on Independence Day! The 🇪🇺 EU continues to stand firmly by your side to build a democratic, European future for your country," Kos wrote.

Her statement comes as Georgia marks 106 years since declaring independence on May 26, 1918. Despite growing political tensions and concerns over democratic backsliding, EU officials continue to express support for Georgia's European aspirations.

Independence Day is a significant national holiday commemorating Georgia’s first declaration of independence from the Russian Empire and the establishment of the First Democratic Republic of Georgia.
