The European Council has urged Russia to ‘immediately’ withdraw its forces and military equipment from Ukrainian territory in the conclusions issued on March 25.
Following the exchange of views with the US president on transatlantic cooperation, the Council denounced Russia’s attack on Ukraine, saying it ‘grossly’ violated international law and caused ‘massive loss of life and injury’ to civilians.
The Council paid tribute to governments, organisations and individuals that supported people who had fled Ukraine during the war.
“The European Council recognises all the efforts already made to welcome refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine, and calls on all Member States to intensify their efforts in a continued spirit of unity and solidarity, and invites the Commission to take any necessary initiatives to facilitate such efforts,” they wrote.
The Council also called to organise an international conference to raise money under the Ukraine Solidarity Trust Fund.
