The foreign affairs committee of the European Parliament has adopted its annual report on Georgia, highlighting concerns over democratic backsliding and political developments in the country.
The report was approved by 53 votes in favour and 14 against.
According to the draft text, the European Parliament expresses “full solidarity with the Georgian people”, who it says continue to strive for a European and democratic future “amid democratic backsliding, increasing repression, hostile rhetoric, disinformation and threats”.
The document also welcomes the activation of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Moscow Mechanism, initiated by 24 participating states. The move allows for the deployment of an expert mission to assess Georgia’s compliance with its commitments to the organisation.
