Ex-minister Zakareishvili: PM’s speech harmful, dangerous

Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili’s recent speech at Parliament was harmful and dangerous. He, actually, said that the government will not suspend polarization. Moreover, it will further deepen it, former Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality under Georgian Dream government, Paata Zakareishvili, told Front News on Thursday.

He suggested that the country’s authorities have plans to “still speak about the United National Movement with the public.” 

“The problem is not that we have not been granted EU candidate status. The problem is how we act. We are doing our utmost to discourage the EU from giving the status. It was hard to listen to the PM yesterday in parliament. Moreover, the speech was harmful and dangerous. His wording pointed at prolonged polarization,” Zakareishvili said.

He stated that the Georgian Dream authorities still “feel stable in office,” noting that less people took to the street than stayed at home. 

“The Georgian Dream believes that those who prefer to stay at home with the fear that the United National Movement may return to power outnumber those protesting the government’s activities and decisions,” Zakareishvili said. 

Garibashvili made his speech at parliament yesterday, causing a dispute with opposition MPs.
