Extradited ex-official Kardava leaves court in protest

Former head of Georgia’s military police under the United National Movement (UNM) government, Megis Kardava, who was extradited from Ukraine to Georgia in September 2021, has left Tbilisi City Court earlier today in protest, saying that he is a ‘political prisoner.’ 

Kardava is charged with abuse of authority, torture, sexual abuse, illegal imprisonment and other alleged offvences, and has been wanted by Georgian law enforcers since 2013 for 11 criminal casesHe was detained in  Ukraine in November 2017, when he tried to illegally enter the country from Romania.

Kardava says that he and his family were serving the country and have never committed any crimes.
