Georgia’s Former Defence Minister Irakli Okruashvili has arrived in Ukraine to fight against Russia, Okruashvili has stated, noting that he ‘could not imagine taking a weapon at the age of 48 to fight for Georgia’s freedom in Ukraine.’

Okruashvili has encouraged Georgians to do the same.

Okruashvili served as prosecutor general, interior and defence minister under the United National Movement government.

However, after opposing former president Mikheil Saakashvili back in 2007, he was arrested  on corruption charges.

He spent several years in France and returned  to Georgia only after the Georgian Dream coalition defeated Saakashvili’s United National Movement back in 2012.

However, he also faced charges under the Georgian Dream government but was soon released from prison due to opposition protests.
