Former Georgian National Bank President warns of consequences of British sanctions on Ivanishvili

Giorgi Kadagidze, former President of the National Bank of Georgia, has expressed warnings about the impact of potential British sanctions on Bidzina Ivanishvili, the Honorary Chair and founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party, describing them as an irreversible path with devastating consequences for those targeted.

“British sanctions are a path from which there is no way out. If they don’t listen to us, they will listen to Irakli Rukhadze [owner of the government-affiliated Imedi TV channel] or anyone else who has had contact with the sanctions,” Kadagidze stated, emphasizing the futility of resisting such measures.

According to Kadagidze, even under the best circumstances for the Georgian government, the implications of these sanctions will be catastrophic. “It is impossible to win this battle. Even in the best scenario for them, they will lose everything. They will become lepers, unable to travel anywhere, even with a visa,” he said.

Kadagidze underscored the critical role of civil and business sectors in supporting those at the forefront of resistance. While he acknowledged that businesses and citizens are not expected to directly join protests or halt operations, he highlighted the importance of standing in solidarity with frontline fighters, particularly in the media and online platforms.

“The waves of protest must grow even stronger,” he urged, calling on businesses to uphold their responsibility during this pivotal time.
