Giga Gigashvili, the former head of Tbilisi City Hall’s environmental protection service, was on Monday sentenced  to three years in prison for official neglect in the incident involving the death of a minor in central Tbilisi Vake Park fountain last  year.

Another suspect in the case, charged with the fabrication of official documents, was sentenced to 1.5 years in prison.

13-year-old Marita Meparishvili and two of her friends were electrocuted in a newly renovated fountain on October 13, 2022, when they were trying to retrieve a ball.

The minor died after transportation to a hospital. Tbilisi City Court convicted eight others in the same case earlier this year.
