Head of the ruling Georgian Dream party Irakli Kobakhidze has thanked the public for expressing ‘ unprecedented support’ for Ukraine amid critical comments by the part of Georgians and the country’s opposition that the ruling party and the Georgian Dream government are not as supportive for Ukraine as they should be.
“Georgians and Ukrainians are linked with special, emotional ties. The pain of the Ukrainian people also hurts Georgians,” Kobakhidze said.
Thousands of Gorgians have taken to the streets these days to express support for Ukraine.
Many of them have also demanded the resignation of PM Irakli Garibashvili for his recent comments that Georgian will not join sanctions against Russia and that he would not fly to Ukraine.
Garibashvili, however, says that he acts based on the interests of the Georgian people and that Georgia has expressed support for Ukraine in all international formats, also ensuring humanitarian aid.
