The ruling Georgian Dream party MP Irakli Zarkua says that bringing a late cameraman of TV Pirveli Lekso Lashkarava on the list of murdered journalists by UNESCO is incorrect.

Lashkarava was attacked by right-wing activists during Tbilisi Pride on July 5, 2021.

He died on July 11, several days after he was discharged from hospital.

Zarkua says that investigation revealed a real reason for death and that the family also agreed with the investigation.

The Georgian Interior Ministry pointed at alleged drug overdose when making comments on the case.

“UNESCO also says that Lashkarava died on July 5, when the real date for death is July 11,” Zarkua said.
