The ruling Georgian Dream party MP Beka Davitulaini said that what Saakashvili spoke in a court today was a speech of an old autocratic leader who has no empathy for the victims of ‘his regime.’
MP Irakli Zarkua added that ‘Saakashvili will never become Zviad Gamsakhurdia (first president of Georgia) who had dignity while imprisoned.’
Prosecutor Jarji Tsiklauri also slammed the former president for ‘speaking about everything rather than his charges.’
He said that in the cases Saakashvili was convicted with abuse of power, referring to the brutal murder of 28-year-old Sandro Girgvliani back in 2006 and beating of opposytion MP Valeri Gelashvili, ‘there are all evidence proving Saakashvili’s guilt.’
Saakashvili, howere, said earlier today that the Girgvliani’s case was used as a negative PR stunt against him, ‘when there is no evidence in the case proving my fault.’
The former president was taken to Tbilisi City Court earlier today to attend a trial hearing in the illegal rally dispersal case back in November 2007 in which he was charged.
Saakashvili said that all charges against him are ungrounded.
