Opposition figure Gedevan Popkhadze has called on authorities to ensure proper medical monitoring for activists staging a hunger strike outside the Georgian Parliament, saying participants must be protected from serious health risks.
Popkhadze, a member of the Coalition for Change, said the condition of the hunger strikers is currently stable but stressed that state health services must remain involved.
“There must be medical control and a guarantee that no hunger striker ends up in a critical condition,” he said.
He reaffirmed the group’s demands - new parliamentary elections and the release of what they describe as political prisoners arrested during pro-European protests - insisting the actions were necessary for Georgia’s democratic future.
Popkhadze and several activists began their hunger strike several days ago, and continue to demonstrate outside Parliament.
