Geka Geladze resigns as head of Georgia’s State Security Service

Geka Geladze has resigned as head of Georgia’s State Security Service (GSSS), saying he will continue his work in another government agency following consultations with the ruling political team.

Geladze announced his decision in a social media post on Monday, saying he would continue to serve the interests of Georgia and its people in his new position.

“I have decided to leave the post of head of the State Security Service of Georgia. Following consultations with the political team, I will continue my work in another agency, where I will once again serve the interests of our country and society with full responsibility,” Geladze said.

He described his tenure as head of the GSSS as a major responsibility and an opportunity to serve the country, saying the agency’s work during his tenure focused on addressing security challenges, strengthening Georgia’s security and protecting national interests.

Geladze thanked the agency employees for their professionalism and dedication, as well as the ruling political team, particularly Georgian Dream honorary chairman Bidzina Ivanishvili and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, for their confidence.

“I am confident that the State Security Service will continue to carry out the important tasks entrusted to it with dignity and protect the country’s security,” he said.

Geladze became head of the GSSS in April 2026, succeeding Mamuka Mdinaradze. He had previously served as Georgia’s interior minister from May 2025 to April 2026.
