Georgian parliamentary majority leader Irakli Kirtskhalia has said that a successful outcome in the constitutional lawsuit targeting opposition political parties would represent a victory for Georgia, arguing that the country faces both domestic and external challenges that hinder its economic development.
Speaking on the television programme Open Air, Kirtskhalia said Georgia could have achieved significantly stronger economic performance had it not faced what he described as coordinated pressure from abroad and the activities of foreign-backed political groups within the country.
“Considering the economic figures we have today, imagine where we could have been if there were no foreign agents operating inside the country and no orchestrated attacks against us from abroad,” Kirtskhalia said.
He described the situation as a struggle on two fronts, accusing external forces of attempting to undermine Georgia’s sovereignty and turn the country into a proxy state.
“This is a battle on two fronts: genuine internal challenges and external pressures aimed at forcing Georgia to its knees and turning it into a proxy state,” he said.
Referring to the constitutional lawsuit, Kirtskhalia expressed confidence that a favourable court ruling would represent a broader victory for the country.
“We believe that if this process ends in our victory, it will directly translate into a victory for Georgia,” he said.
“Once again, Georgia without foreign agents, once and for all.”
