Giorgi Mosiashvili, a Georgian citizen who had been detained by Russian occupation forces, has been released and is now back in territory controlled by Georgia's central government, the State Security Service of Georgia (SSS) confirmed on July 2.

The agency did not specify when Mosiashvili was initially detained. However, his release marks the fourth such case reported by the SSS in the past month, reflecting an ongoing pattern of detentions near the occupation line separating Georgian-controlled territory from the Russian-occupied regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

According to the SSS, multiple mechanisms were employed to facilitate Mosiashvili’s release, including the EU Monitoring Mission’s (EUMM) hotline and other diplomatic channels at the government’s disposal. “The Georgian government was in constant contact with international partners throughout the process,” the agency said.

The SSS reiterated that it holds Russia responsible for all "destructive actions" taking place in or around Georgia’s occupied territories and along the administrative boundary lines.
