Georgian health officials say that responsible agencies are looking into the death of a fully-vaccinated man in eastern Georgia yesterday.
Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze stated earlier today that ‘it is a very regrettable fact,’ adding that only 0,001 percent of Georgian fully vaccinated individuals have died from Covid-19 so far.
Tikaradze stated that the man, allegedly writer Vazha Shakarashvili, had a chronic disease which played a role in his death.
“Vaccination does not mean a 100 percent guarantee. Vaccination means that in most cases a virus will not kill us,” Deputy Head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control Paata Imnadze has stated.
Deputy Health Minister Tamar Gabunia stated that a booster dose of a vaccine may be allowed for certain groups of people.
According to Facebook posts Shakarashvili got both shots of the Chinese Sinovac vaccine.
Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines are currently available in Georgia.
979,813 individuals have received their one dose of one of the vaccines since March 2021 in Georgia, while 294,365 of the 979,813 people have been fully vaccinated (10 percent of the country’s adult population).
