Georgian Dream founder Ivanishvili praised PM Kobakhidze amid resignation rumours, majority leader says

Georgian Dream founder and honorary chairman Bidzina Ivanishvili praised Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during recent meetings of the ruling party’s Political Council and parliamentary majority, dismissing speculation about the prime minister’s possible resignation, parliamentary majority leader Irakli Kirtskhalia said.

Speaking to journalists, Kirtskhalia, who is also a member of Georgian Dream’s Political Council, addressed rumours suggesting that Kobakhidze could either resign or be forced to step down.

He confirmed that the prime minister’s performance had been discussed at both meetings, saying Ivanishvili had devoted considerable attention to Kobakhidze and spoken exclusively in positive terms.

“There was indeed a discussion about the prime minister, and Mr Bidzina Ivanishvili spoke extensively about him. However, absolutely every word was one of praise,” Kirtskhalia said.

He added that the ruling party fully shared Ivanishvili’s assessment and continued to support Kobakhidze’s leadership.

“Under his leadership, the Georgian government is performing exceptionally well. Not only is there no reason for his resignation, but every passing day demonstrates that he is the best prime minister,” Kirtskhalia said.

According to the parliamentary majority leader, Ivanishvili spent more time discussing Kobakhidze than any other individual during the meetings, with his remarks focusing entirely on the prime minister’s achievements and leadership.

Kirtskhalia also accused opposition groups of spreading unfounded rumours about potential changes in the country’s leadership.

“When everyone can see what a decent, hardworking and honest prime minister the country has, yet the opposition continues to spread such rumours, it clearly demonstrates the position they find themselves in,” he said.
