Georgian president Salome Zourabichvili on Friday said the country’s Georgiann Dream authorities had “isolated itself” from the international community for its position over the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, in her remarks on the war anniversary.
In her address, Zourabichvili said “Russia is already defeated in this war, because it could not depose the government of Ukraine, exhaust the patience of the Ukrainian people, or weaken the international support”.
“On the contrary, trust and support towards the Ukrainian government and the president is growing day by day. Unprecedented solidarity and aid, not only verbal, not only financial, but all possible resources [have been directed to the country],” she noted.
Pointing to the circumstances, Zourabichvili highlighted “in this context, I cannot but express my sadness that the government of Georgia has isolated itself, separated itself from the democratic community, and with some reasons is trying to justify its incomprehensible, supposedly neutral or balanced position. incomprehensible from the country that had gone through the same ordeal many times, that knows very well what it means to have an enemy’s violation of sovereignty and a sword raised against independence”.
The president also noted Tbilisi would once again remind the international community that Georgia “has not forgotten the main thing – its own identity and dignity”, in reference to the solidarity rally planned later today in front of the parliament building on Rustaveli Avenue at 7:00 p.m. local time.
