Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, on Wednesday highlighted the significance of NATO adopting approaches similar to those of the European Union through providing “exact criteria and expectations” during his visit to NATO headquarters.

The official said he had focused on the country’s efforts to maintain a secure environment in the face of challenging security conditions at the NATO-Georgia Commission meeting earlier during the day.

“I talked about how Georgia manages to maintain a safe environment in a very difficult security environment and at the same time participate in international security, including in the form of supporting Ukraine.

The approaches that the EU has taken recently, where we are given clear expectations in the form of recommendations, followed by appropriate decisions when we make progress on this or that recommendation. It is important that NATO also takes these approaches and tells us the exact criteria and expectations”, he said.

Papuashvili further engaged with Mircea Geoană, Deputy Secretary General of NATO, during a meeting where they discussed NATO-Georgia relations, current regional events, and future plans.

Geoană expressed unwavering support for the territorial integrity of Georgia, with Papuashvili expressing gratitude for NATO’s support and affirming Georgia’s commitment to making progress on the path of North Atlantic integration, the Parliament press office said.
