Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili says that not only Ukraine, but also Georgia and Moldova have received a green light for EU membership, responding to yesterday’s solution of the EU to launch procedures for the membership of war-torn Ukraine.

Papuashvili stated today that the membership to the bloc requires time and fulfillment of a range of demands.

“However, the process has been launched which is very important,” Papuashvili said.

He stated that at this stage the EU will study whether the applicant country meets the requirements for a candidate country status.

Ukraine applied for EU membership two weeks ago, shortly after Russia invaded the country.

Georgia and Moldova joined the move shortly after.

Georgia has been recognized as a leader country of the EU’s Eastern Partnership Initiative based on the reforms and a lever of democracy.

Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine created an Associated Trio format back in 2021 to accelerate their EU integration process.
