Questions arise not about the criteria set by the European Council for Georgia’s EU candidacy, but about the real policy of the Georgian Dream ruling party, – said MEP Andrius Kubilius at the conference on the European future of Georgia on Friday.

“Recently, I have heard very strange statements from the leaders of Georgian Dream, when they criticized the ambassadors of Western countries, criticized the ambassador of the European Union, they say that the European Union wants to drag Georgia into a war with Russia, and so on. After hearing such things, questions arise not about the criteria, but about the real policy of the Georgian dream,” Kubilius said.

Speaking about de-oligarchization, as one of the preconditions for EU candidacy, the MEP said that “everyone knows that Bidzina Ivanishvili has great influence. This is not new and all post-Soviet countries had such problems”,  referring to the founder of the ruling party who claims “never interferes in Georgian politics after quitting it for the second time last year.
