Germany will provide Ukraine with a new $500 million (£368 million) package of military support, NATO announced on Tuesday.

According to the alliance, the aid — consisting of military equipment and munitions — will be sourced from US stockpiles under a NATO initiative and is aimed at meeting Ukraine’s most urgent operational needs on the battlefield.

“Germany is the largest European contributor of military aid to Ukraine, and today’s announcement further underlines its commitment to help the Ukrainian people defend their freedom and sovereignty,” NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said.
