Gia Japaridze, a member of the Unity – National Movement party, has criticized the ruling Georgian Dream party, accusing it of deepening international isolation and manipulating its supporters with misleading rhetoric.

Japaridze claimed that the Georgian Dream leadership was trying to maintain control by portraying external enemies and framing opposition voices as part of a “global war party.” According to him, such tactics were characteristic of a totalitarian regime that relied on creating an image of external threats to sustain its power.

“Their isolation is deepening, and that is why this letter [from the GD] was needed for their supporters—to assure them that nothing is happening and that the so-called global war party is attacking them,” Japaridze said.

He further criticized the party’s relationship with Russia, suggesting that it undermineD Georgia’s sovereignty. “What a totalitarian regime needs is an image of an enemy. Its ally is Russia. Kobakhidze [the prime minister] even claimed that Russia does not interfere in Georgian affairs—this, despite Russia occupying Georgian territories. By such statements, they indirectly acknowledge the occupied territories as independent state units,” Japaridze asserted.

Japaridze also accused Georgian Dream of keeping its voter base under a state of “hypnosis,” using “targeted narratives to downplay the challenges the country faces” on the international stage and to obscure its growing isolation.
